About 30 papers were presented at the conference and best paper was selected under two Engineering fields by the Evaluation Panel.

The paper “Multi Channel Access Zigbee Gateway with Plug and Play Smart Office/Home Device Interface (SmartBee)” from university of Ruhuna was selected as the Best Paper from the field of ICT (Information and Communication Technology).

The paper “Dynamic Thermal Model for Toroidal Transformers” from university of Moratuwa was selected as the best paper from the field of Electrical Power.

Both those projects will have the opportunity to present those papers at IET Main conference and One of those papers will be selected to present at the South Asia Technical Conference which will be held in China.

Artificial Neural Networks

Artificial Neural Networks are one of the well developed technologies in past few years. The basic concept behind this technology is the technology used in our brain and body. The most important thing we have with neural networks is we can train the system by doing some examples. So we don’t need to put advance logic to solve the problems it will solved the problem by using things it learnt previously.
This can be used to solve some complex problems like travelling salesmen Problem. This technology is used in Signal Processing, Control Systems, Robotics, Pattern Recognition, and Medicine and so on.

For the technical background and for more details you can visit following links.

Should we addict to “OPEN SOURCE”?

Open Source software development is one of the trends in modern world and also it is a good trend. Here I’m expressing my own idea. In my point of view as an Engineering student, Open source must be there as well as other stuff also we need. The requirement of the industry depends on their applications. As an example, if people expect only open source stuff, how Microsoft became popular?
As future Engineers we must be able to provide customer needs whether it is open source stuff or not. We have to open our mind and made our talent to contribute some better thing to the future world.

IET Field Visit to Pelwatta Suger Factory

I had a wonderful journey to visit Pelwatta Sugar factory. That was a really wonderful journey. All the things were beyond the level we expected. The factory has spread over huge area. Also the factory consists of all the facilities. Play grounds, Gymnasiums, Swimming pools and luxury rooms. These facilities are really amazing compared to the rural development of that area.
The factory also well designed and there were lot of things (Almost all) which are related to mechanical engineering field. I think every Mechanical and also Electrical engineer must study this Factory. They have optimized this factory well, all the resources are used almost 100%. The main products of the factory are sugar and alcohol sprit.
Also had a funny trip with moratuwa and pera guys. Had a lot of fun and played some cricket, swim. Special thank to our IET YMS for arranging such event for all of us.
